Kentucky bluegrass

Poa pratensis L.

Kentucky bluegrass is frequently found in natural grasslands, in both mineral and humus-rich soils. It is persistent, with strong rhizomes and erect leafy shoots. Growth starts early in spring, and the regrowth consists mainly of leafy material. Kentucky bluegrass is present in all permanent pastures used for grazing. It is common in temperate and relatively moist regions in both the northern and southern hemispheres. It tolerates hard wear, and because of its rhizomes, it can regenerate itself even if the grass sward is badly damaged.
