LG-31 was bred to create an elite, improved grazing tolerant orchardgrass variety for longer applied rotation periods, while retaining cold tolerance. Active selection pressure throughout the breeding process involved improving grazing tolerance and re-growth by subjecting the material to frequent defoliation. Significant improvements have also been made on resistance to various leaf spots, rusts, and other diseases. This superior disease resistance, combined with versatility and persistence make LG-31 a vital and complimentary component to any pasture or hay field.
