Quick Facts
ORANTAS is an intermediate maturity 2N perennial ryegrass adapted to both grazing and harvested forage. It has a dense prostrate growth with good palatability, which allows it to excel in grazing situations. It has good diversity by yielding high tonnage when harvested for silage or hay. Orantas is used in Europe as a component in mixtures for both short and long term pasture rotations. Orantas was evaluated at the DLF Research Farm in Kentucky. In a 2 yr. forage yield trial, Orantas was in the top significant group for DM yield, and it excelled at balanced production through the entire growing season. It scored better than average for development, vigor, and freedom from aftermath heading.
ORANTAS is is broadly adapted wherever perennial ryegrass is needed in a forage mixture. It is well suited for in- tensely managed pasture systems and also excels as a harvested high quality forage. It can be used in animal finish systems and high production dairy systems. Orantas overseeds well. The variety has been broadly tested in Europe with excellent results in forage yield and quality.
